Windows install help

The installer is signed. If Windows or your antivirus stops it anyway, this page gets you past it.

If your browser holds the download

Edge may say the installer isn’t commonly downloaded and offer only Delete. Point at the file in the downloads list, click the three dots beside it, then Keep. If Edge asks again, click Show more, then Keep anyway. In Chrome, open your downloads (Ctrl+J) and choose to keep the file. In Firefox, click Allow download.

If Windows says it protected your PC

If all you saw was “Windows protected your PC”, click More info. The publisher should read CLUELESSAI. If it does, click Run anyway and you are done. If it says Unknown publisher, you have an old download: get a fresh one from the front page.

Nothing on this page costs anything. CluelessAI is free while early access runs, every account is on Max, and no card is asked for at any point.

Why this happens

The installer is signed by CLUELESSAI through Microsoft’s Artifact Signing service. That tells Windows who made the file and that nobody has changed it since. What a signature cannot buy is history. SmartScreen and antivirus also score a file on how many people have run it, and a new app starts with none. That fades as more people install it.

It is also fair to say what the app does, because it is the reason security software pays attention: CluelessAI reads the part of your screen you draw a box around, and it can type an answer for you. Reading the screen and sending keystrokes are the two behaviours antivirus is built to notice. That is the product working, not something hidden inside it. If that makes you uncomfortable, not installing it is a reasonable choice.

Already have an older version?

Versions 0.2.2 and earlier cannot update themselves on Windows. Download the installer from the front page once and run it over the top; there is no need to uninstall first. From 0.2.3 on, the app tells you when an update is ready and installs it itself.

If you installed our certificate before, you no longer need it, and you should remove it. An earlier version of this page had you add a CluelessAI certificate to Trusted Root Certification Authorities, back when the installer was signed by hand. Press Win+R, run certmgr.msc, open Trusted Root Certification Authorities › Certificates, find CluelessAI, and delete it. Its thumbprint is:

If antivirus deletes the installer

Do these in order. If the installer is already on your disk when you add the exclusion, it may already have been deleted.

  1. Make a folder, then exclude it

    Create C:\CluelessAI. In McAfee: Settings → Real-Time Scanning → Excluded Files, and add that folder. Other antivirus call it Exclusions, Allowed list, or Exceptions.

  2. Download the installer into it

    The same installer as the front page. There is only one now. If your browser holds it, keep it as shown at the top.

  3. Run the installer

    If SmartScreen appears: More info, check the publisher reads CLUELESSAI, then Run anyway, as shown at the top.

  4. If antivirus complains again afterwards

    Add one more exclusion, for the folder the app installed into: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CluelessAI. Paste that into the folder picker’s address bar and Windows fills in the rest. The app installs a keyboard hook so it can type for you, and some antivirus flags that the first time it sees one.

  5. Open it and make an account

    Google, or an email address and a password. If you use email, confirm the address from the mail we send or it will not answer anything. Then press Ctrl + Shift + X anywhere and drag a box around whatever you are stuck on.

If Smart App Control blocks it

Smart App Control accepts apps signed by a certificate authority in Microsoft’s Trusted Root Program, and the installer’s signature comes from one, so it should let CluelessAI through. If it blocks it anyway, email us a screenshot rather than turning Smart App Control off. That is a problem on our side to fix, not a setting for you to lower.

Put your protection back afterwards

If you switched anything off to get through this, turn it back on now that the app is installed. Keep the folder exclusion instead. An exclusion for one folder is a much smaller thing to live with than having your scanner off, and it survives reboots, so you only do it once.

If none of that works

There is an MSI version too. Same app, different packaging, and some antivirus treats it differently. It installs into C:\Program Files\CluelessAI instead, and asks for administrator permission. Failing that, email cluelessai.ca@gmail.com and we will sort it out.
